Red Hat, Inc. today introduced a brand new Enterprise Virtualization Promotional Offering further expanding its cloud infrastructure offering aimed at helping companies in their transition from traditional datacenter virtualization to OpenStack-powered clouds. The new product offering will be offered as a single subscription solution that combines enterprise Linux platform and Red Hat’s virtualization management system for servers and desktops, providing greater agility for Linux and Microsoft workloads. Red Hat officials say that the Enterprise Virtualization Promotional Offering will be available in fall 2013.

In a press statement, Red Hat officials pointed to the 2013 “State of the Cloud” survey; the results show that the 64% of respondents plan to include a private cloud as part of their cloud portfolio, while 41% plan to use only open source-based private cloud options. Another 29% plan to use a hybrid combination of open source and proprietary solutions, the survey found.

“OpenStack and the promise of open hybrid clouds are leading customers to reconsider their infrastructure choices with an eye toward reducing cost and avoiding lock-in,” Radhesh Balakrishnan, general manager, Virtualization, Red Hat, said in a statement. “Red Hat Cloud Infrastructure presents an enterprise datacenter virtualization alternative to take customers on that journey from proprietary to open.”

The open source solutions provider today also announced the Red Hat Certificate of Expertise in IaaS, a new training and certification offering designed for IT professionals who are looking to expand their knowledge in deploying and managing OpenStack. Demand for professionals with this particular expertise is growing, Red Hat points out, and this new certification program aims to meet this demand. Red Hat Certificate of Expertise in IaaS represents the industry’s highest standard for OpenStack-based training certifications and enables participants to gain a growing knowledge of the changes happening in the IaaS space, the company says.

The class will cover the following vital OpenStack skills:

  • Installing and configuring a Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform deployment;
  • Configuring and managing images
  • Managing storage using Object Storage (Swift) and Block Storage (Cinder).

According to Red Hat, the certification process for this training will be based on performance, with participants performing tasks on a live system to gain real-world experience.
